Mountain Top Picnic

The Blue Mountains may be famous for Echo Point and its Three Sisters lookout, however that isn't the only view that will take your breath away. Tucked away in the leafy township of Leura, a short 5-minute drive from Hotel Blue, is the unforgettable Sublime Point. This rocky outcrop gives a panoramic, 270-degree view of the Jamison Valley, and is one of the best picnic spots in the Mountains. Sublime Point offers picnic tables, a shelter, and magnificent, flat cliff-tops providing uninhibited views where you can lay out a picnic blanket and enjoy a chef-prepared lunch.

For the family who relishes the space to kick a soccer ball and the feel of grass underfoot, Katoomba Falls is another pleasant picnic spot. These expansive picnic grounds offer BBQs, shelters, picnic tables and a kiosk, and are only a short 5-minute walk from Scenic World. This picnic area is also the perfect place for the family to experience the splendour of the Jamison Valley rainforests. Stroll down the historic Fürber Steps to the bottom of the Jamison Valley, passing Witches Leap, Vera's Grotto, and maybe even a Lyrebird if you're lucky. But don't think you have to walk back up the Fürber Steps - take a ride on the world's steepest railway or Australia's steepest cableway from Scenic World's valley station, and you will arrive back at the cliff top with a unique view along the way.

Spend the day marvelling at the World Heritage views of the Blue Mountains, find the perfect mountain top to enjoy a chef prepared picnic, and relax by the open fire in Hotel Blue's guest lounge in the evening. Whether you're driving, catching the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus or on foot, there are plenty of views to see, and many a cliff top to explore.

The glass-bottomed Scenic Skyway travels 720m across a gorge giving views of the Jurassic rainforest 270m below. The Southern Hemisphere’s steepest cable car, the Scenic Cableway, takes passengers on a 545m ride into or out of the rainforest on the valley floor. The Scenic Railway, the steepest funicular railway in the world, takes passengers on a 415m descent through a cliff-side tunnel originally part of Katoomba's coalmine tramway system completed in 1900.
